Security Log Date: July 3, 2026

Status: Secured at Base Camp

We had a bit of operational drama out on the highway today. The "Dog House on Wheels" had a sudden issue with its actual wheels.

I overheard the humans talking about a "tire pressure monitoring system" warning and high heat readings. Apparently, the tires were running way too hot, which forced us to pull off the interstate and let the rubber cool down multiple times.

Now, the humans were stressed, but not Shadow and I. We considered it a total win. Every time we pulled off to cool the tires, we got to stretch our legs and execute unscheduled tactical sniffs at random roadside stops that we’d normally drive right on by at 65 miles per hour. Logistics might have been delayed, but perimeter intelligence has never been richer.

Mission Arrival: Normal, Illinois

We finally limped into our nightly destination: the Love’s RV Stop in Normal, Illinois.

If this place feels familiar, that's because it's built on the same setup as the Love's stop we checked out in Cordele, Georgia—easy pull-through slips, quick hookups, and a reliable layout. The only downside? No doggy splash pad here for a cool-down session.

Once the leveling jacks went down, I immediately performed my mandatory site security sweep. Current status report:

  • The Dog Park: Fully fenced, clean perimeter, zero unauthorized threats.

  • Trees: A few prime specimens available for data logging and territory marking.

  • Overall Vibe: Quiet, low-density traffic, excellent for a 4th of July weekend staging area.

🐾 Patches' Final Verdict

Good, safe spot to cool down the tires and reset before the holiday weekend.

Human Notes:

While Patches was inspecting the dog park, we looked into the area! Normal, Illinois (which sits right next to Bloomington) has a surprisingly cool history and a very modern claim to fame:

  • What's in a Name?: It wasn't named because the town is "ordinary." It was actually named after the Illinois State Normal University (now ISU) back in 1865. A "normal school" was the historic term for a teacher-training college!

  • Route 66 Royalty: The iconic Mother Road (Route 66) runs right through the heart of Bloomington-Normal, making it a classic stop for American road-trippers.

  • Electric Future: Today, Normal is famous for being the home of the massive Rivian Automotive manufacturing facility, where electric trucks and delivery vans are built. So while our diesel tires were cooling down, thousands of electric vehicles were being built just down the road!
